I’m very happy to stand in for Frances Ryan at the D.Rad exhibition - Complicating the Narrative (In a Time of False Simplicity), currently on display at Espace Canopy here in Paris.
D.Rad is – and I quote – a comparative study of radicalisation and polarisation in Europe and beyond. It aims to identify the actors, networks, and wider social contexts driving radicalisation, particularly among young people in urban and peri-urban areas. D.Rad conceptualises this through the I-GAP spectrum (injustice-grievance-alienation-polarisation) with the goal of moving towards measurable evaluations of de-radicalisation programmes. Our intention is to identify the building blocks of radicalisation, which include a sense of being victimised; a sense of being thwarted or lacking agency in established legal and political structures; and coming under the influence of “us vs them” identity formulations. A selection of Frances’s collages are part of this exhibition. She couldn’t make it to Paris herself so I will be hosting a collage workshop in her place. The workshop will be Wednesday, April 12th, 4-6pm. The exhibition will be on display until April 22nd…
